Things looked bleak just a few weeks ago when Plan2Peak athlete Jon Bottoms called me to tell me he had been run down by a car while in the lead of the Orchard Park Quakerman Tri. He lost about a square foot of skin, was banged up and his bike totaled. This all just weeks prior to Lake Placid.
We focused on healing first. While we were doing that we fixed his bike issue. While considering the options we settled on a bike that would dupicate his current position so he could transition back on the back as seamlessly as possible. Then we trained hard for one more week before tapering. We did this because the week we had to back off started to freshen him up a little too early. So, the added training stress delayed his Peak.
Well, it worked out pretty well. Jon posted a 10:04 Ironman on one of the toughest course in the country finishing 72nd overall, beating a handful of Pro Men and 13th in his very competitive Age Group.
Way to Manage the Day Jon. Congratulations.
